Mike Rogers, the great-nephew of country music legend Kenny Rogers who brought us the official sequel to "The Gambler" (fittingly titled "The Gambler's Legacy") as well as the breakout hits "6 7 Christmas" and "Cowgirl Wiggle" (Currently #1 Indie Backroads Breakouts Top 10) publicly challenged Bruce Springsteen to a symbolic “music duel,” pitting Springsteen’s newly released song “Streets of Minneapolis” against Mike's upcoming track “Don’t Play Chicken With A Badge.”
 
The challenge is framed as a cultural and artistic debate over protest music, generational perspectives on authority and social unrest, and the role musicians play in shaping political narratives. Rogers has invited Springsteen to respond publicly by giving Mike's song equal financial backing by Bruce's recording label to see which song enjoys the most commercial success to determine which message people believe to be the most relevant and relatable.
 
“This isn’t about disrespecting Bruce despite his irresponsible advice for people to attack federal law enforcement or supporting any politician or organization,” Rogers said in a statement. “It’s about challenging ideas through music, like artists have done for generations. My great-uncle Kenny believed songs should tell stories and spark conversation, and that’s what I’m doing here. Bruce worked with Kenny years ago and out of respect for him I think he owes his fanbase the opportunity to see him take the challenge and prove to them that his song is more relevant than mine and can stand the test of time. I can only assume that his fans would feel the same way regardless of their opinion of mine or Uncle Kenny's music."
